Lancaster Barnstormers – Raise the Barn
The Barnstormers marketing team came to Spencer for ideas to extend the celebration of their previous year’s championship victory with a broadcast campaign. A secondary request was to let fans know about upcoming events at the stadium. The infamous Rubber Duck Drop, the Cowboy Monkeys, the Goat Races, Bark in the Park…
Extreme unscientific research on the part of the creative team revealed we needed to start with a “barnyardy” song since we’re talking Barnstormers, so we ripped “The Chicken Reel” novelty tune from 1911 and called in one of our favorite composers to stomp the tune out, you know… “Mumford it up a little.” Then we created a simple chant for the song called “Raise the Barn” so the fans could participate with the cheer when it came on during a game.
So, when a home run was hit? RAISE THE BARN. A double play? RAISE THE BARN. Win another game? Yup… RAISE THE BARN.
Finally, we needed to teach the audience how to do the chant, so we shot ten spots in an afternoon near the Clipper Magazine Stadium with amazingly talented dancers, who were really kidnapped coworkers. We even got lucky when a real-life professional Irish step dancer walked onto the set.
